Kondorosi Inn
The Kondorosi Inn is the most iconic building in Kondoros, located in the heart of the town. According to some sources, the original inn was demolished in the early 1820s and replaced with a massive brick fortress, which featured mysterious hiding places, tunnels, and labyrinths within its walls. It is said that the famous outlaw Sándor Rózsa himself escaped his pursuers through the tunnel system beneath the inn. The "old inn," believed to have been lost due to walling up in the 1910s, regained its former shape by 1985. Since 2002, the Kondorosi Inn has been owned by the town. Thanks to a successful grant, it was renovated and now operates not only as a restaurant renowned far and wide for its excellent cuisine but also as an inn museum. The collection housed here offers insight into the lives of the once-famous outlaws and, thanks to the diligent collecting efforts of locals, includes countless old household items that were still common in every home just a few decades ago but are now rarely seen. Thanks to the latest developments, the local history collection has been further expanded, and the inn museum has become interactive. Sándor Rózsa can be brought to life not only through his wax figure, wanted poster, or signature but also virtually, as visitors can take his place among the outlaws and shoot at stagecoaches from horseback. With the help of the "escape museum," visitors can not only observe but actively participate in re-enacted historical events and traditional programmes, such as dressing in outlaw attire or trying their hand at cracking a bullwhip.
