Ulteriori informazioni

The feature known locally as the "slide" is a slope covered with smooth andesite blocks, aligned in a way that resembles a natural rock slide. Above and below this area lies the so-called stone sea: a field of massive, irregular andesite boulders scattered across the slope. Their unique appearance and geological significance make the site a true natural monument—perfect for geology enthusiasts, hikers, and families seeking a scenic and educational experience.

This geological site is part of the Novohrad–Nógrád UNESCO Global Geopark, a cross-border initiative that protects geodiversity while promoting sustainable tourism and environmental education. Interpretation panels placed along the trail explain the origin of the andesite rocks, their tectonic history, and the processes that shaped this volcanic landscape. Visitors are kindly asked to respect the natural environment by remaining on marked paths and avoiding rock collection or disturbance.

Hiking Recommendation and Access

The basalt slide is best accessed from the village of Bér via a well-marked forest trail. The round trip is approximately 5 km, gently ascending through mixed woodland. It is ideal for families, school groups, or casual hikers. In spring and summer, wildflowers and birdsong accompany your walk, while autumn offers a vibrant canopy of foliage. Although the trail is not difficult, sturdy footwear is recommended.

The nearest parking is in the village centre of Bér. From there, follow the yellow, then green hiking trail markers. Information boards along the route enhance your experience with geological and natural insights.

Ecotourism Tips

The Bér basalt formations represent how geotourism and environmental awareness can go hand in hand. Please bring a reusable water bottle, pack your snacks responsibly, and take any waste with you. The “leave no trace” principle is essential here. The peace and silence of the area are part of its charm, so help preserve it by avoiding loud noises and disturbing wildlife. This visit is a unique opportunity to deepen your appreciation of volcanic landscapes and foster a deeper connection with nature.
