The shared home of the Reformed and Lutheran church in Hévíz

For a long time in Hévíz's history, neither the Reformed nor the Lutheran community had their own church. From the 1920s onwards, services were held in various temporary locations – private homes, the cultural hall of the Thermal Hospital, or even a smaller room in the local cinema. Although plans for the church, designed by architect Bálint Szeghalmi, were completed in 1938, the war and inflation prevented its construction at the time.

It wasn't until decades later, in 1994, that progress was made when the city council donated a plot of land to the two denominations. Architect Mihály Zób was tasked with modernising the earlier plans. The construction was achieved through extensive collaboration, with support from the local government and several foreign partner congregations. The church was completed in three years and was ceremonially consecrated in 1998 by Dr Béla Harmati, Lutheran bishop, and Dr Mihály Márkus, Reformed bishop.

The building's red stone façade and marble decorations evoke the architectural style of Transylvanian Reformed churches. One of the interior highlights is the meticulously crafted woodwork, along with the winged altar created by Rózsa Polgár, a Kossuth and Munkácsy Prize-winning tapestry artist.

The bell in the tower is housed under an open arch, a gift from Károly Borsos and his family to the church. The organ was built in 2004 by Miklós Albert, an organ builder from Győr. Today, the building continues to serve the faith life of both the Hungarian Reformed and German Lutheran congregations.
