Ivómezeje
Ivó (in Romanian, Izvoare) is one of the most untouched, mountainous holiday destinations in Székely Land, located in Harghita County and administratively part of the commune of Zetea. The settlement lies on the eastern side of the Harghita Mountains, in the source region of the Nagy-Küküllő River, at an altitude of 800–1000 metres above sea level, surrounded by stunning forest landscapes. The uniqueness of Ivó lies precisely in this: far from the noise of the modern world, yet easily accessible via an asphalt road from Zetea. The area is dominated by mountain streams with drinking-water purity, pine forests, and tranquil forest clearings, offering excellent opportunities for relaxation all year round. It is an ideal destination for hikers, nature photographers, and visitors seeking a peaceful retreat, where the natural environment remains almost entirely unspoiled. The region is particularly rich in mushrooms, medicinal plants, and wildlife – deer, roe deer, and even occasional bear tracks are not uncommon in the surrounding forests. Ivó is also developing as a tourist destination: numerous guesthouses, chalets, and holiday homes have been built, skilfully combining traditional Székely architectural elements with modern comforts. Along the Ivó Valley, several smaller tourist hubs have been established, offering local gastronomy, accommodation, and seasonal activities. Nearby, the Zetea Reservoir provides opportunities for fishing, boating, and swimming in summer, while winter in Ivó offers sledging, snowshoeing, and even ski tours. A special attraction in the area is the Ivó Wildlife Park, where visitors can observe the wildlife of the Carpathians in their natural habitat, making it an appealing destination for families and school groups. Alongside nature, the local community also plays an important role: guesthouses are often run by locals, allowing visitors to enjoy personal hospitality and hear local stories. - editorial content -
