Parajd
Praid is a village located in the western part of Harghita County, at the heart of the Sóvidék region, offering a unique balance of natural beauty and cultural heritage characteristic of the Székely landscape. Once primarily known for its salt mine, the village has now embarked on a new chapter in tourism, focusing on nature-based experiences, community values, and sustainable development. The surrounding area is rich in hiking opportunities, ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. The Via Transilvanica pilgrimage and hiking trail passes through Praid, connecting the village to Transylvania's sustainable tourism network. The hiking paths through the nearby hills and forests invite nature enthusiasts year-round: the Salt Canyon, the Salt Mountain nature trail, and the Salt Rocks offer a truly unique natural experience. From the rocky cliffs, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the valley, especially at sunset. In addition to exploring nature, Praid also welcomes lovers of rural tourism. Visitors can discover Székely folk architecture, gain insight into the daily lives of local beekeepers, artisans, or lavender producers, and taste the flavours typical of the Sóvidék region, such as salted cake, potato dumplings (dödölle), or Praid lavender honey. Initiatives realised through the collaboration of local stakeholders not only enhance tourism but also strengthen local identity. The Praid community centre regularly hosts cultural events, craft fairs, and gastronomic days aimed at fostering connections between visitors and locals. Although the salt mine is no longer open to visitors, Praid still offers plenty to explore for those seeking meaningful, authentic, and responsibly planned relaxation. Visitors not only recharge in the proximity of nature but also contribute to building the future of a village that has embraced sustainable tourism as its community vision. - editorial content -
