HévízTours / Historical Bath Tour
A historical bath tour, from cupping therapy to the Hévíz Traditional Cure A Hévíz city walking tour with a local guide, where you'll discover how the swampy area once known as Hévíz mud became an internationally renowned spa destination.
It all began when Count György Festetics I built the first bathhouse on Lake Hévíz in 1795. During the walk, I'll share stories about why the first bath was called a "mirror bath," what the ticket prices for the lake bath were, and the bathing rules of the time. The first bathhouse was rebuilt several times, and there was even a building that sadly only stood for a few months.
Fascinating legends and stories have been passed down about how our ancestors discovered the healing benefits of the bath. There are romantic tales, like the miraculous recovery of Klára Pethő, the love of Sándor Rezi, and true stories, such as Nelly the elephant's healing treatment in Hévíz. Much has changed over time: the Cupping House, the Cure Salon, and the Zander Institute have disappeared, but what remains and is now recognised worldwide is the Hévíz Traditional Cure, a hallmark of the area.
