Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church

Hévíz's modern church, the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, was built based on the designs of János Bocskai with the support of the local community over three years. It was consecrated on 9 September 1999, the 'Day of Nines', by Archbishop József Szendi.

The church's seven towers symbolise the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. Of the four bells, two were donated by the faithful in honour of Saints Peter and Paul, while the other two were transferred from the previous church.

A modern építészet és a hagyományos stílus harmonikus ötvözete a belső térben is megjelenik: meleg faborítás, színes gótikus stílust idéző üvegablakok (Simon Endre munkái), és kiemelkedő műalkotások díszítik a templomot.

A szentély falán 200 éves kereszt látható, míg az oltár két oldalán Marton László bronzszobrai – Krisztus és a Magyarok Nagyasszonya – kaptak helyet. A falakon Morvay László tűzzománc képei láthatók. A templom előtti 5 méteres oszlopon Gál Gergely „Angyal” című szobra áll, a környező dombon pedig többek között Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet, Gróf Széchenyi István és Szent István emlékművei fogadják az érkezőket.

A templom 1000 fő befogadására alkalmas, kiváló akusztikája miatt rendszeresen ad helyet orgonakoncerteknek is – nemcsak szakrális, de kulturális központként is kiemelkedő szerepet tölt be Hévíz életében.

Roman-era Ruin Garden In the Egregy district of Hévíz, one of the most important Roman-era discoveries of the Balaton region was unearthed: a nearly 1,000 m² stone villa built around AD 100. With its columned portico and bathing pools, it reflects the advanced bathing culture of the time. The villa and its surroundings were inhabited for centuries and, after several reconstructions, survived until the early 5th century. Excavations also revealed a Mithras sanctuary, economic buildings, and early coins – all suggesting that the Romans settled near the miraculous lake not only for economic but also for spiritual and medicinal purposes.
