The Town Hall is one of Miskolc's central building complexes, consisting of four parts and located at the end of the downtown pedestrian street. While most people think of the corner building when mentioning the Town Hall, in reality, it has housed various other functions in the past, including a tobacco exchange, police station, military headquarters, and a law academy. Over the history of the oldest part of the complex, even the size of the windows had to be adjusted to harmonise with neighbouring buildings, and the construction was completed thanks to charitable contributions from the women of Miskolc. The Town Hall's elegant ceremonial hall hosts festive events and weddings. The modern glass atrium connects the three old building sections and the inner courtyards, while the new wing facing Saint Stephen Square offers a unique view with its observation terrace and towering spire. From the terrace, which is accessible only to Town Hall employees and guests, there is a beautiful view of Avas and the main street events. The building houses official offices, but the glass atrium also serves as a venue for various community events, blood donations, charity gatherings, and exhibitions, ensuring that the 'house of the city' is truly open to everyone. Town Hall Square, previously known as Horthy Miklós Square and Council House Square, is essentially the funnel-shaped widening of the main street, continuing north along the line of the former Butcher Street. Although the square is small, it has been the heart of the city for centuries, home to the County Hall, the Catholic Grammar School, and the Convent Chapel, making it one of the most important landmarks for the people of Miskolc.
