More information
The Miskolctapolca Cave Bath is one of the city’s most popular attractions, offering a unique experience for visitors. The tradition of bathing in Tapolca dates back to the Middle Ages, with natural hot springs serving locals and visitors for centuries. Opened in 1959, the Cave Bath is unique in Europe, allowing guests to bathe in natural limestone caves while relaxing in the warm, healing waters of karst springs. The cave was formed by water erosion, resulting in warm pools, tunnel-like passages, and natural cave walls within. The bath’s 31°C water contains calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate, and other minerals, beneficial for musculoskeletal, respiratory, and cardiovascular conditions. Over the years, the Cave Bath has undergone multiple expansions and modernizations, now featuring wellness services and a sauna park. The surrounding area also attracts visitors with its relaxation park, boating lake, and adventure park. Awarded "Bath of the Year" in 2016, the Cave Bath remains a favorite among locals and tourists alike, who always enjoy a dip in this unique natural wonder when visiting Miskolctapolca. In 2024 the Cave Bath tragically suffered a fire and remains closed for renovation until restoration work is complete.
