Zajednički dom reformirane i evangeličke crkve u Hévízu
A church design was created in 1938 by architect Bálint Szeghalmi, but the plans were never realized due to economic hardship and the outbreak of World War II. It was not until 1994 that the municipality donated a plot of land to the Protestant denominations. Architect Mihály Zoób was commissioned to modernize Szeghalmi’s original plans. The construction was supported by the local government and several foreign church communities. After three years of building, the church was consecrated in 1998 by Evangelical Bishop Dr. Béla Harmati and Reformed Bishop Dr. Mihály Márkus.
The church’s red stone walls and marble decorations reflect the style of traditional Hungarian Reformed churches in Transylvania. Inside, visitors are greeted by impressive woodwork and a striking triptych created by Rózsa Polgár, a renowned textile artist and recipient of both the Kossuth and Munkácsy Awards.
The bell hangs beneath an open arch in the tower and was donated by Károly Borsos and his family. The organ, completed in 2004, was built by Miklós Albert, an organ builder from Győr. Today, the church is jointly used by the Hungarian Reformed Church and the German-speaking Evangelical community.
